What we compared and why
- Hair on the brush roll. A wet brush roll collects long hair faster than a dry vacuum does, and hair that wraps has to be cut off by hand. We mark 'Yes' in the anti-tangle column only where the maker's page names hair, tangles or clogs.
- Corded or cordless. Pet messes are rarely planned. A cordless machine is quicker to grab for one muddy paw trail; a corded one does not stop halfway through a large kitchen.
- Self-cleaning of the brush path. After pet messes the brush and tubing hold dirty water and hair. A rinse cycle in the dock moves most of that into the dirty tank instead of leaving it on the roller.
- The kind of mess. A floor washer cleans floors. A wet accident on a rug or a sofa needs a portable wet/dry vac or a spot cleaner with a hose; see the decision table below.
- Weight. Anyone who carries the cleaner upstairs or lifts it over a pet gate feels a few pounds. We show the listing's weight where the listing gives one.

Read at this page's build and converted to one unit by us; sources as in the key above. "Not stated in listing": the listing does not give it. "Listing gives two values": it states two, so we show neither.

roborock F25 LT wet-dry cleaner (WD5M3A), cordless
Who it fits: Single-floor homes with hard floors where you want a cordless machine to grab for paw prints and shed hair, and a dock that rinses the brush.
Skip it if: You need a stated anti-tangle feature before you buy; neither the listing nor a roborock page we could match names one.

dreame Aero wet-dry cleaner (HHR32A)
Who it fits: Hard-floor homes where a stated runtime figure matters to you; its listing gives one, along with a self-cleaning feature.
Skip it if: You want to confirm it is cordless and anti-tangle from the maker before buying; we could not match a dreame page to this exact model number.

Tineco iFLOOR 2 Complete wet-dry cleaner, cordless
Who it fits: A smaller cordless machine for a pet household with mostly hard floors, from the maker whose newer iFLOOR 5 we compare head to head elsewhere on this site.
Skip it if: You want the stated runtime of each model side by side; the listing for this model gives none.

BISSELL CrossWave Edge wet-dry cleaner (4111A)
Who it fits: Pet households already using BISSELL CrossWave formulas who want a CrossWave Edge with a self-cleaning feature named in its listing.
Skip it if: You need to know corded or cordless, or the runtime, before you buy; the listing states neither and BISSELL's site did not answer our requests.

BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam wet-dry cleaner with steam (3515G)
Who it fits: Sealed hard floors with dried-on paw prints where you want steam as well as a wash.
Skip it if: Your floors are unsealed wood or another surface the maker's manual says not to steam; check the manual first.

Shark EveryMess portable wet/dry vac and stain remover (VX101), corded
Who it fits: Wet accidents and spills on rugs, stairs and upholstery as well as floors; Shark names pet hair pickup with no clogs, clumps or tangles, and states a 240-inch (20 ft) cord.
Skip it if: You want to wash whole floors; this is a portable wet/dry vac with tools, not a floor washer.
The short answer
Most wet-dry floor cleaners do the same three things at once: they vacuum loose debris, wash with clean water from one tank and pull the dirty water back into another. What a pet changes is the load on the brush. Long hair wraps around a wet roller, paw prints dry into the grout, and an accident on a rug is a different job from a dirty kitchen floor. This page is research-based, built from the current listings and the makers' own pages; we have not used these machines with pets ourselves.
Which machine for which mess
This is the decision we would make before looking at any spec, because a floor washer and a portable wet/dry vac are not interchangeable.
| Mess | Floor washer (first five rows of the table) | Portable wet/dry vac (Shark EveryMess) |
|---|---|---|
| Shed hair and grit on hard floors | Yes, the usual tool | Possible with a floor tool, but slow over a whole room |
| Muddy paw prints across a kitchen | Yes | Slow |
| Dried-on paw prints on sealed tile | Yes; steam on the HydroSteam if the floor allows it | No |
| Water bowl spills | Yes | Yes |
| An accident on a rug or carpet | No; these machines are for hard floors and their makers do not present them as carpet washers | Yes, with a hose and tool |
| An accident on a sofa or car seat | No | Yes |
If your mess list is mostly the last two rows, a floor washer is the wrong purchase; look at our pet accidents guide for spot cleaners instead. If it is mostly the first four rows, read on.
Hair: what "anti-tangle" means here
The anti-tangle column says "Yes" only where a maker's page addresses hair wrapping in words. Of the machines here, only Shark's page for the EveryMess does: it states pet hair pickup with no clogs, clumps or tangles. For the five floor washers, we found no maker page for the exact model number that makes the same claim, so the cell says "Not stated". That does not mean the brush wraps; it means nobody has said in writing that it does not.
What you can do either way: check that the brush roll lifts out without tools, and look in the manual for a cleaning step for the roller. In a home with a long-haired dog, that step comes up weekly.
Corded or cordless
Two of the floor washers here, the roborock and the Tineco, are cordless per their listings; the dreame listing does not state its power type. Neither BISSELL CrossWave listing states its power type, and BISSELL sells CrossWave Edge models both with and without a battery, so check the power type on each listing before you buy. The trade-off is simple. A cordless machine is the one you grab for a single paw-print trail; a plug-in one is the one that finishes a large kitchen and hallway without a charging break. Where a listing states a runtime, it is in the table. Runtime claims are usually measured in the lowest power mode, so expect less on the highest setting.
Self-cleaning, and why pet owners should care
Every listing here names a self-cleaning feature. On wet-dry floor cleaners, it usually means the dock runs clean water through the brush and tubing so dirty water and hair end up in the dirty tank. That matters more in a pet home, where the roller sees more hair. It does not replace emptying the dirty tank and rinsing the filter, which every maker asks you to do by hand.
Steam on the HydroSteam
The BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam is the only floor washer here sold with steam, according to its listing title. Steam can loosen paw prints that have dried on, but not every floor tolerates it. Check the floor maker's care instructions and the machine's manual before using steam on wood or laminate.
Which one if...
- Your home is one level of hard floors and you mostly face hair and paw prints: a cordless washer, the roborock F25 LT or the Tineco iFLOOR 2 Complete; the dreame Aero states a runtime, but confirm its power type before you buy.
- You have a large kitchen and dislike charging breaks: a corded floor washer; the corded Shark HydroVac MessMaster is in our wider comparison.
- You already use BISSELL CrossWave formulas: the BISSELL CrossWave Edge (4111A), after confirming its power type on the listing.
- Dried-on prints on sealed tile are the main complaint: the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam, after checking your floor's care instructions.
- Accidents on rugs, stairs or the sofa are the main complaint: the Shark EveryMess, which is a portable wet/dry vac rather than a floor washer.
For a wider comparison of floor washers without the pet angle, see wet-dry floor cleaners compared. For dry pet hair on carpet, a vacuum does more than a floor washer; see stick vacuums for pet hair.
Reading the table
A figure with a mark comes from the maker's page, linked under Sources. Everything else is from the current listing. "Not stated in listing" means the listing gives no figure and we found no maker page for that exact model number; we would rather show a blank than borrow a figure from a sibling model. Suction figures are the listing's own and are measured differently by different makers, so compare them within one brand at most.
What this page does not tell you
We have not used these machines, and we do not rank them. We do not say how well any of them removes a given stain, odour or amount of hair, how long floors take to dry, or which cleaning formula to use; follow each maker's manual for formulas and floor types.
