What we compared and why
- Outlet or battery. A car in a driveway is often far from an outlet. A cordless machine goes anywhere; a corded one needs an outlet close enough for the cord plus the hose to reach the far seat.
- Reach, hose plus cord. For a car we add hose and cord: that sum is how far from the outlet you can clean. For a sofa the hose alone matters, because the machine sits on the floor beside it.
- Clean-water tank. A whole car interior or a three-seat sofa takes more water than one spot. A larger tank means fewer trips to the sink.
- Heat. Some portables heat or steam the water; most use tap water as filled. We mark 'Yes' only where the listing or maker names heating.
- Self-cleaning hose rinse. After a messy job you flush the hose. A named rinse tool or self-cleaning step makes that short.

Read at this page's build and converted to one unit by us; sources as in the key above. "Not stated in listing": the listing does not give it. "Listing gives two values": it states two, so we show neither.

Shark StainForce Cordless (HX101), handheld
Who it fits: Quick spots in the car or on the sofa with no outlet at all; Shark states 15 minutes of battery life and a 5-hour charge.
Skip it if: You clean a whole car interior at once; Shark's stated battery life and the lack of a stated tank point to small spot jobs.

BISSELL Little Green Mini Cordless (4015)
Who it fits: Cordless spot work in the car or on upholstery from the Little Green line, with a runtime stated in the listing and a self-cleaning feature.
Skip it if: You want a long hose for the far side of a van; the listing gives no hose length.

Armor All auto detailing spot cleaner (SCC301)
Who it fits: Car interiors from a driveway outlet; it is sold for auto detailing and its listing gives a cord length.
Skip it if: You also clean stairs indoors and want a heating or steam feature; the listing names neither.

Kenmore SpotLite Go Pet (KW1046)
Who it fits: Sofas, stairs and car seats where a long hose helps; its listing states the hose length in the table.
Skip it if: You need cordless use in the car; the listing does not describe it as cordless, so confirm the power type first.

Shark StainStriker HairPro (PX251)
Who it fits: Pet hair and stains on upholstery and car mats; Shark states a 4.5 ft hose, a 12 ft cord and HairPro pickup with no clogs, clumps or tangles.
Skip it if: Your car is far from an outlet; 12 ft of cord plus the hose is the reach.

BISSELL Little Green Pet Pro (3909)
Who it fits: Sofa and car jobs from the Little Green line where a self-cleaning feature, named in the listing, matters to you.
Skip it if: You want stated tank and hose figures to plan around; this listing gives neither.

BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam (3618)
Who it fits: Sofas and car seats where you want heated water or steam and a stated clean tank, the only one in this table, per its listing.
Skip it if: Space in the car trunk or a small cupboard is tight; a larger tank means a larger machine.
What a car and a couch ask of a spot cleaner
Both jobs are spot work rather than room work: you wet a small area, scrub it with a hand tool and pull the water back out. What differs is where the machine stands. On a sofa it sits on the floor next to you, so only the hose length matters. In a car it often sits on the driveway, so the cord has to reach from the outlet to the car and the hose has to reach from the machine to the far seat. This page is research-based, from the current listings and the makers' pages; we have not used these machines on a car or a sofa ourselves.
Reach arithmetic for the car
Add the hose to the cord and you have the furthest point from the outlet you can clean. Take the Shark StainStriker HairPro, where Shark states both figures: 12 feet of cord plus 4.5 feet of hose is 16.5 feet of reach. Measure from your nearest outdoor or garage outlet to the far rear door of your car. If that is more than the sum, you need an extension cord rated for the machine (check the manual; some makers advise against one) or a cordless model.
| Distance from outlet to far car door | What works |
|---|---|
| Under the machine's hose plus cord | Any corded model whose two figures add up past it |
| Over the hose plus cord, and the manual allows an extension cord | A corded model with an extension cord |
| No outlet within reach, or the manual rules out extension cords | A cordless model: the Shark StainForce or the BISSELL Little Green Mini Cordless |
Where a row gives neither hose nor cord, the box or the manual is where to confirm reach before relying on that model in a car.
Cordless: what one charge means
Shark states 15 minutes of battery life for the StainForce and a 5-hour charge. That is a figure for spot work rather than a full interior. The BISSELL Little Green Mini Cordless lists its own runtime in the table. If a full interior clean is the job, a plug-in model with a decent tank is the realistic choice, and the cordless one stays in the car for fresh spills.
Shark's page gives the StainForce's weight two ways: a spec of 6.26 lb and a description of "under 3 lbs". The table shows both, because we cannot tell which figure covers which parts.
Tanks: a sofa versus a car
Where a listing states a clean tank, it is in the table; at the time of this build only the BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam's listing gives one. For a three-seat sofa or a full car interior, fewer refills matter. For one coffee spill, any tank in this class is enough.
Heat and steam
The Little Green HydroSteam is the only model here that names heated water or steam in its listing. Heat can help with set-in spots, but some upholstery fabrics and car trims carry care labels that limit water temperature or steam. Check the fabric's cleaning code and the car maker's interior care advice before using heat.
Which one if...
- Your car is parked far from any outlet: the Shark StainForce or the BISSELL Little Green Mini Cordless.
- You clean car interiors from a driveway outlet: the Armor All, sold for auto detailing, or the Shark StainStriker HairPro if its stated reach covers the distance.
- Sofas and stairs come first: the Kenmore SpotLite Go Pet, for the longer hose stated in its listing.
- Pet hair on upholstery is the main problem: the Shark StainStriker HairPro.
- Set-in spots where heat is allowed: the BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam.
For carpeted stairs and longer hoses, see spot cleaners for stairs and upholstery. For pet accidents on carpet, see the pet accidents guide. Not sure a spot cleaner is enough? See spot cleaner or full-size carpet cleaner.
Reading the table
A figure with a mark comes from the maker's page, linked under Sources. Everything else is from the current listing. "Not stated in listing" means the listing gives no figure and we found no maker page for that exact model number. BISSELL's site did not answer our requests while we wrote this page, so the three BISSELL rows are listing-only. Listing weights outside a plausible range for this kind of machine are hidden, because earlier listings in this class gave package or accessory weights.
What this page does not tell you
We have not used these machines, and we do not rank them. We do not say how well any of them lifts a given stain, how long seats take to dry or which formula to use; follow each maker's manual and the fabric's care label.
